Food Initiative for Tribes (FIT)

Food deserts, food insecurity, lack of access to fresh produce, and the resulting rise in preventable disease disproportionately affect many counties in Oklahoma.  Although these problems are widespread, the health and well-being of the Native American communities have been particularly hard hit.

Food Initiative for Tribes (FIT) is leveraging the infrastructure, relationships and horticultural training methods successfully developed by Tribal Alliance for Pollinators (TAP) to address this crisis.  FIT provides on-site instruction to Native Americans in all aspects of raising healthy food, with a special focus on organic production methods and increasing soil health. FIT also provides seeds and starter plants at no cost to tribal members.
